Centennial High School is a four-year comprehensive high school with the curriculum focus based on career academies.  Centennial does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, or sex.
 
Centennial High School, as part of our commitment to both college and career readiness, expects that each upperclassman will be part of a career academy. All core subjects will be taught in each academy with a focus on the emphasis of that academy.  For example, an Algebra II class for students on the Hospitality pathway, while being certain to teach all standards for that class, will also tailor particular problems and projects toward Hospitality-related content.  Though the same novels and standards will be taught in all junior English classes, teachers in each academy will emphasize different aspects of those novels and have students involved in research and inter-disciplinary projects related to their specific academy interests.  This kind of cross-curricular integration not only presents a more consistent message to students, parents, and the community, but also becomes a more challenging and interesting way for teachers and students to learn together.
 
Students have the opportunity to choose course offerings from many different fields of study.  Special education, regular, honors and advanced placement programs are available to meet the needs of the individual student.
 
It is also an expectation for all Centennial H.S. students to register for a full schedule for all 4 academic years regardless of the number of credits needed in order to graduate.

Review graduation requirements and college admission requirements before planning your schedule.  Courses in the curriculum guide are offered based on student selections from the previous year, some courses may not be offered due to enrollment               

• ​Some groups of courses must be taken in sequence. 

• Some courses require fees. 

• Some courses have specific prerequisites which must be met or require instructor approval.

• Some courses are worth more than one credit and some are worth less.  Be sure to account for all credits needed for graduation.

• Refer to career pathway guide to determine a four year plan.

• Read the descriptions of all classes very carefully.

• Do not sign up for courses that require teacher approval unless you have obtained the appropriate teacher’s signature on the teacher approval form.

• Remember that you are registering for the full academic school year.  A balanced schedule with core classes and electives is needed.

• Some classes may be unavailable to students because of overloads.  Administration will determine placement based on criteria.   

• Consult your Advisory teacher or counselor about questions.

• Refer to the Schedule Change Policy in Student Handbook regarding schedule changes.

• Credits may not be received for a repeated course unless it is offered at different levels.

 
The Counselor has information about course offerings, graduation requirements, colleges and universities as well as careers.
 
Parents are requested to attend a meeting during Next-Step days to review their student’s selections for next year enrollment.  The Next Step Plan is a state requirement that students develop beginning the spring of 8th grade and continue to update until graduation. Next Step is developed collaboratively between students, parents, and school designee, and assists students in aligning their academic choices to their post-secondary and career goals. Parents are welcome to contact a counselor with any questions related to enrollment.
 
Las Cruces Public Schools allows students enrolled in a traditional school program to earn 7 credits in an academic year.  Students needing credit recovery may earn only 12 credits per year.  This total includes credits earned in day school and any credits earned in alternative programs. 
 
Centennial High School reserves the right to revise course offerings  as well as descriptions.  Not all classes will be offered each year.  Classes chosen to be offered will be done so based on student requests and staffing.
