The holidays are a time for giving, spreading joy and reminding those around us how much they are loved and supported. At Las Cruces Public Schools, we believe every child deserves the special feeling of finding a gift waiting for them under the Christmas tree.

Each year, through our “Wish Upon a Star” holiday gift-giving project, we invite staff, families, local businesses and community organizations to help make the holidays brighter for students who could use a little extra support. That is why we are happy to extend an invitation to our community to participate once again by sponsoring an LCPS student this holiday season.
Through this heartfelt initiative, community members can make a meaningful difference in a child's holiday by fulfilling a special wish and providing a gift they will find under the tree on Christmas morning.

So, how does it work? Our Federal Programs Department has decorated the Wish Upon a Star tree with individual stars, each featuring the wish of an LCPS student. The tree is now available at the Las Cruces Public Schools Family Support Center. Each star includes a student's name, clothing sizes and Christmas wish.

Community members are welcome to stop by the Family Support Center, select one or more stars from the tree and register their selections with the receptionist at the front desk.

The Family Support Center is conveniently located next door to the Dr. Karen Trujillo Administration Complex at 505 S. Main St. in Las Cruces.
Once you have selected a star, please purchase and wrap the requested gift and return it to the Family Support Center with the corresponding star ornament no later than 5 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2026.

The holiday season is about so much more than the gifts we give. It is about kindness, compassion and the joy of knowing someone is thinking of you. A simple act of generosity can mean the world to a child.
