Four educators from around New Mexico were selected as finalists for the 2023 NM Teacher of the Year award! Join us in celebrating their achievements and commitment to education.
Meet Catherine Turietta-Huber. Ms. Huber is in her 22nd year with Las Cruces Public Schools and teaches 5th grade at Tombaugh Elementary. She holds a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, coordinates Tombaugh’s annual Stargazing event and STEM week, and works to provide excellent instruction for students.
Ms. Huber received the 2018 Jose M. Serna Teacher Impact Award and was a member of the 2019 Social Studies Dream Team. She also received the 2022 Teacher of the Year Award for Tombaugh Elementary and was named the 2022 Teacher of the Year for Las Cruces Public Schools.

ensure our practices consistently, accurately, and meaningfully assess student learning. To this end, we are seeking your input to ensure that any refinements in our approach to homework, assessment, and grading are reflective of your views.
To support this work, we’ve partnered with GradingRx® https://gradingrx.com/ to help ussurvey stakeholder views and determine what’s most effective regarding our assessment, grading, and reporting practices for our students. Together with your important feedback, we’ll work to improve our assessment and grading practices for our students’ benefit.
All information collected in this survey is completely anonymous, and it should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Only fully completed surveys (all questions answered) will be included in the results. Survey responses are collected using a 4-point rating scale with an option to include open comments. All input is strictly confidential and greatly appreciated!

October Trivia Night is happening this Wednesday! The Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation is inviting the public to test their trivial knowledge for a good cause. Money raised will be used to help support LCPS teachers with $100 mini-grants to purchase classroom supplies. Register your teams of 3-5 participants, test your knowledge, have fun and win cash prizes to support the LCPS Foundation Supply Mini-Grant program. Las Cruces Public Schools will be hosting a series of virtual parent meetings to introduce a guest speaker who will be presenting to students about digital citizenship, social media safety, and the overall pros and cons related to the technology they use every day.
Robert Hackenson, Jr. has been a leading youth speaker about online safety and continuously updates his presentations to include the latest trends in this subject area. He has delivered hundreds of presentations to elementary, middle and high school audiences across 33 states and has been a key speaker on college campuses during parents' weekends. Want to know more? The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a Flash Flood Warning for South Central Dona Ana County. Additionally LCPS Field of Dreams is currently in a shelter in place due to lightning within a 10-mile radius. Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of students, families, and our community, tonight's LCPS Marching Band Exhibition will be postponed, a future date will be determined and announced. Students were scheduled to begin arriving as early as 5:00 p.m. It was determined that a decision to postpone be made early as possible in order to mitigate any potential safety issues. A rescheduled date will be shared soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
