Join student filmmakers from Las Cruces Public Schools as they unveil their own movies for the first time on the big screen. This year, more than 200 student produced films and broadcast videos were submitted for the Tell the Story LCPS Film Showcase. The theme for this year is Motion Picture Roundup.

Calm & Breathe: Teen Yoga for Stress Relief - This week, Downtown Desert Yoga will be offering middle and high school students free yoga classes at Downtown Desert Yoga, 303 S Alameda Blvd, Las Cruces, NM 88001.
Classes will be held at 1:30p.m. on March 11 - March 15.

Congratulations to Brady Rewalt, the LCPS Student Athlete of the Week from Centennial High School. Brady is on the basketball team, averaging 10.3 points, 1.6 assist, and 3.3 rebounds per game. Coach Martinez says, “Brady has a positive attitude, he’s hardworking, encouraging, is a good friend and teammate.”
Congratulations to Audi Torrez, the LCPS Student Athlete of the Week from Centennial High School. Audi plays basketball for the Hawks. She averages 11.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. Coach Abney says, “Audi is an extremely hard worker, she overcame a knee injury, coming back for a tremendous senior season.”
Congratulations to all our Educators Rising State winners and participants from Centennial, Organ Mountain and Las Cruces High Schools this year! Also a huge shoutout to Jolyssa from CHS who is the new Ed Rising State Vice President. Way to go LCPS!!
Organ Mountain Lady Knights (19-7) battle the Mayfield Trojans for district supremacy. The game is also important for key seeding in the 2024 class 5A NM State Girls Basketball Championships. These teams know each other well and hope to execute when it matters most.

It was a fantastic day at the Field of Dreams for the 2nd Annual Plan My Future event. It was a hands-on career day for over 1,300 students in middle & high school as they explored options and different career paths from a variety of industry partners in Las Cruces. Get your popcorn ready for the 2nd Annual Tell the Story LCPS Film Showcase happening on March 20-21. The red carpet will be rolled out for all of our student filmmakers and their families at 5pm on each night. The Showing of the films will begin at 6p.m. at Cineport 10 Allen Theatres.
Last year, Students took on the challenge of coming up with a storyline for their film, adapting it to a script, then filming, acting, directing, producing, and editing it all together within the 48 hour and 168 hour film competition deadline.
More than 200 student filmmakers participated in the film showcase last year. There were 59 non-competitive films and 7 competitive films submitted. Each student produced movie included elements that students had to incorporate in their film as part of the competition.
Parents get ready, online registration for the 2024-2025 school year will open on March 18, for incoming kindergarten students, returning students for grades 1st-12th, and new students K-12. Please see flyer for more information. Scan the QR Code to get started.

The following student council’s submitted portfolios to receive the Student Council of the Year Award. This award determines which council’s have excelled and demonstrated success in a wide-range of student council activities. Award levels are Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The district is pleased to announce that all of the LCPS schools that submitted earned the highest accolades.
The following schools received Gold status: Vista Middle School, Arrowhead Park Early College High School, and Organ Mountain High School.
The next schools received Platinum awards, which means they have earned the gold status for three or more consecutive years: Centennial High School, Las Cruces High School and Mayfield High School.

Centennial - Selected as one of the Top 16 teams out of 40 to advance to NMAA State Mock Trial competition in March. They also had a Star Lawyer, Star Witness and a Top 16 Courtroom Artist selected to also advance to state finals.
